Kuaiya VPN v3.6 released with WireGuard protocol support
Lead: On September 12, Kuaiya VPN released client v3.6, integrating the modern WireGuard protocol across all platforms along with a dozen speed and stability improvements. The visible result: faster handshakes, fewer disconnects and better weak-network performance.
Why WireGuard
Previously Kuaiya VPN defaulted to OpenVPN, which is compatible but has a longer handshake and can drop briefly when mobile networks switch base stations. WireGuard's core advantage is a lean codebase and a single-roundtrip tunnel setup. In gray testing, Android cold-start connection time dropped from 4.8s to 1.9s, and weak-network reconnect success rose about 27%.
Kuaiya VPN v3.6 update cover
v3.6 keeps OpenVPN as a fallback. Users can switch manually under Settings > Protocol, or let the client auto-select the best protocol based on the network.
v3.6 changelog highlights
| Item | v3.5 | v3.6 |
|---|---|---|
| Default protocol | OpenVPN | WireGuard (auto) |
| Cold-start connect | 4.8s | 1.9s |
| Weak-network reconnect | 81% | 92% |
| Memory usage | 145MB | 118MB |
Real case: commute disconnects
Mr. Wang in Shanghai commutes on metro line 4, where 4G/5G switches frequently between stations. The old version forced him to reconnect 3-4 times daily. After v3.6, WireGuard's stateless design keeps the tunnel nearly seamless through base station switches, needing manual intervention only once in a week.
"The metro used to drop my connection every switch. Now I barely notice it, video keeps playing." — Mr. Wang, commuter
